The Art

Jodo is a traditional Japanese martial art focused on the jo, a short staff used in defense against an opponent wielding a Japanese sword.

Practitioners oppose each other in paired kata, wielding either the jo or wooken bokuto to train in defense against what may seem overwhelming odds, at first!

Our Practices

Jodo is offered on the first Tuesday evening of every month at our Addison Location.

Jodo at DFWKIK typically consists of kihon and kata practice.

During Kihon, students practice the fundamental strikes and movements with the jo.

During kata, students pair up to apply the fundamentals in standard scenario focused kata.

Start Your Journey

If you are interested in starting Jodo, we encourage you to come visit our Addison Location and observe a practice to see if you like it!

You can also Contact Us if you have any questions.

If you decide to sign up, on your first day you will just need to wear exercise clothes with long pants (such as sweatpants). We will have spare equipment for your first practice you can borrow, after which we recommend purchasing your own bokuto and jo for regular practice!
